GRACE CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTS INTRODUCES VYCOR® BASIK GRANULAR SURFACED, SELF-ADHERED ROOFING UNDERLAYMENT
New Granular Surfaced Roofing Underlayment Provides Economical, Easy-to-Apply Protection from Damage Caused by Wind-Driven Rain and Ice Dams
CAMBRIDGE, MA, February 4, 2000 -- Grace Construction Products has announced the introduction of Vycor® Basik self-adhered roofing underlayment to the North American market. This granular surfaced roofing underlayment complements the existing Grace family of smooth surfaced membranes, which includes the market leading Grace Ice & Water Shield®, Vycor® Ultra, and Vycor® Select.
"The addition of Vycor Basik reflects our vision to provide 'best in class' products for all market segments. We recognize that a certain portion of the market prefers a granular surfaced roofing underlayment, and Vycor Basik expands our existing family of smooth surfaced underlayments to accommodate their preference. We are providing contractors the option of using whatever product type they decide is best for their particular roofing application," notes Keith Bartlett, International Marketing Manager for Underlayment Products.
Vycor Basik is an economical, easy-to-apply roofing underlayment suitable for application under traditional roof coverings requiring protection from wind-driven rain or strong storms as well as code-based standards of protection from ice dams in moderate climates.
Sloped roofs protect structures by shedding water but they are not waterproof. Storm-driven winds can cause sloped roof coverings to lift. Rain can be easily driven under the roof covering directly to the unprotected deck where it causes leaks and damage to the interior of the structure. Vycor Basik applied beneath the sloped roof covering helps to prevent wind-driven rain or melted snow from entering the structure.
Vycor Basik is a 60 mil. thick rubberized asphalt adhesive-based, fiberglass reinforced, granular surfaced, self-adhering roofing underlayment. The rubberized asphalt is backed by a split plastic release liner that protects its adhesive quality. The release liner is easily removed, allowing the rubberized asphalt to be bonded to the roof deck. The product is available in 13.9 m (150 sq ft) rolls with dimensions of 15.2 m (50 ft) x 0.9 m (36 in).
